TomTom Rider 400 Review

By Teddy

One of the things you’ll love about the TomTom Rider 400 is the fact that it is a GPS system that’s specifically designed for use by motorcyclists. The waterproof and glove friendly touchscreen is very responsive and can be used in almost any weather conditions you can think of.

No more will you need to worry about looking at the screen while riding your bike and jeopardizing your safety, since the device is Bluetooth compatible and can deliver directions straight to your helmet or headset. Better yet, you can also connect it to your Smartphone and take advantage of the Bluetooth connectivity in order to make calls handsfree while on route.

The GPS will turn off and on with the ignition of our motorcycle and it comes with a RAM mount (vibration free) and a charging bike dock, meaning that you can use it right away. To suit your preferences, you can use the TomTom Rider 400 in either landscape or portrait mode.

Features

  1. Excellent for explorers, this model helps you customize your trip and discover new routes so that riding your bike to the destination of your choice is an exciting and overall unique experience. You easily do this by selecting your preferences for hilly and winding roads.
  2. RAM mounting kit allow you to mount the device on any bike model. There’s also a glove friendly touch screen that you can easily view in landscape or portrait mode and remains fully readable even in bright sunlight.
  3. Receive real time traffic data thanks to TomTom Traffic. Also, thanks to the speed camera, you’re alerted whenever you need to slow down in order to enjoy a safer and smoother ride.

Winding Roads

This feature is one that you’ll certainly grow accustomed to very easily and one that you’re going to use a lot as well. Also, with Winding Route, it’s easy to choose the route with the highest number of curves meaning that you’re not going to have to worry about the boring straights most motorcyclists seem to dislike. Feel the turns, the twists and the adrenaline of the road and enjoy an experience that you’re likely going to want to repeat very soon.

Another option which is very useful is Hilly Roads. With it, you can either climb to the highest peaks or stay at sea level.

Upload Routes and Go

Upload Routes and Go is a feature that allows you gain access to hundreds or even thousands of routes that were uploaded by users online. You can select any number of them and then download them on your device in order to enjoy the same thrill and the same amazing experience that others enjoyed while creating that specific route. What’s even more impressive is the fact that you can use more than ten thousand route points.

Trip Recording

From beginning to end, you can capture your route in full detail, including every waypoint and spontaneous detour you find along the way. This function also allows you to easily find your way back to the roads you love and then share them with friends.

Free Map Updates

Since it comes with free lifetime map updates, riding with the TomTom 400 means that you’re always going to be aware of any changes to your favorite roads. In total, you can download up to four or even more updates per annum (limited to preloaded New Zealand and Australia maps). When you do that, you’re going to receive all updates to the POIs, addresses and road network. The good news though is that the Rider also includes preloaded POIs relevant to riders. This means that no matter if you want to get to the nearest hospital or burger joint, you have all the info you need in order to get to it. If you have your own great ideas, you share them with the community in just a few seconds.

Another thing you’ll love about the TomTom 400 is that it comes with lifetime traffic and speed cameras data, again, only for New Zealand and Australia. As a result, you’re going to be alerted if there are any speed cameras nearby so that you can avoid fines and ride safer.
